This Eastern Shore Plantation was begun in the mid 1700s but was developed and beautified over a period of a hundered years. The house suffered many years of neglect and abuse until about 1950 when the owners did extensive repair work to preserve the home for ultimate restoration. Under the present ownership of Brigadier General and Mrs. Chester B. deGavre, the house and gardens have taken on a new life with reconstruction of many dependencies and the addition of a rose garden, which is a delight to all. The house is handsomely furnished with family heirlooms, English and American antiques, and reproductions of museum pieces made by General deGavre from measured drawings. –Virginia Hospitality
